Amazon finally added a male voice to its voice assistant, named “Ziggy,” also joining Alexa as a wake word option.
as seen for the first time environment, the male option is the first permanent new voice for Alexa, beyond adding the occasional celebrity here and there.
Users of Amazon Echo, Fire TV, and other compatible devices don’t need to download a new voice, they can simply say “Alexa, change your voice” and the new block will handle your commands.
Whether or not you decide to change gender, Ziggy can be used as a wake-up word. It connects to Alexa, computers, Echo, and Amazon. It’s unclear whether Ziggy is the name of the new voice or just another name for another assistant.
Ambiente shot a video of the new sound, which at the time of this writing is only available in the United States. All in all, it looks great, like Conor Obrest from the brand Bright Eyes.
Amazon announced new voice and wake up calls last week blog post Melissa McCarthy and Shaquille O’Neill were confirmed joining the ranks of celebrity voices. Although, apparently, it flew under the radar.
The company wrote: “In addition to the two new celebrity personalities, customers can also choose between Alexa’s native voice and a new voice option. They can also try out a new wake word, Ziggy, with a voice option, allowing them to choose their own voice. Even more ways to customize the Alexa experience can be found. “Alexa, change your voice” to choose between the voice of Alexa’s native voice or a new voice option, or to other currently available wake words including Ziggy or Alexa “Alexa, change your wake word to select one from Computer, Echo or Amazon.”
We’ll let you know when Amazon rolls out the options in the UK in the coming weeks and months.
