Amazon Echo Show 8
The Echo Show 8 is the larger of the two smart displays. The device includes an 8-inch HD adaptive color screen and is powered by a new octa-core processor.
The HD display and dual stereo speakers mean the device can be used to watch TV and movies from Prime Video and Netflix, and can play music from Apple Music, Amazon Music and Spotify, with new recommendations available on the latter two Huh.
You can use Amazon Photos to convert the display into a digital photo frame when not in use, and Alexa to control your smart home. You can also access the live feed on the Echo Show 8 to remotely monitor your home with the Alexa app.
Amazon has also focused a lot on the camera this year. The Echo Show 8 features a 13-megapixel wide angle camera with a built-in cover that can pan and zoom automatically during video calls and conferences.
Vice President of Amazon Devices EU, Eric Sarnio said, “Customers like to use the Echo Show to stay in touch and the number of video calls globally has nearly tripled in the last one year.”
“With these new Echo Show devices, we focused on creating experiences that will add even more value to our customers – bringing a powerful camera and digital pan and zoom capabilities to the new Echo Show 8, Echo Show 5 camera Upgrading to, and adding, the ability to safely access the built-in camera to check in at home while you’re away. ”
Amazon Echo Show 5
Meanwhile, the Echo Show 5 comes with a smaller 5.5-inch display and is available in a new deep sea blue shade.
The smart display packs an advanced HD camera (again, with a privacy cover) with twice the pixels of its predecessor for faster calls. Show 5 also features a live feed feature similar to Echo Show 8.
Amazon continues to add choice and flexibility
Although both new models are small upgrades over the original, and do not appear to be much of a reason for the current owners to upgrade, each product is one step ahead. More importantly, the smart display reflects Amazon’s commitment to provide a range of Echo speakers for all conditions and rooms, while Google has a much smaller range. A wide range of smart displays is becoming more useful in the Amazon world: you can view your camera or answer your ring doorbell without reaching the smartphone, as well as make calls. And, the low price of the Eco Show 5 makes it a more attractive option for bedrooms.
