Apple finally gave us a new Apple TV 4K and the price is anything but right. Apple does not care, argues Chris Smith, Apple TV Plus is where the money is.
As I watched Apple unveil its first new Apple TV 4K hardware in almost four years, I crossed my fingers. For me, the offer will be all about the price. The current model, as old as it was, was just as expensive.
Will Apple realize that this is an external situation when compared to the Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Google TV options? Will it give new hardware a more competitive price?
Before you laugh, here is a recent example. After the original SmartPod came to the scene at a much higher price than other smart speakers, the company corrected the course with the £ 99 HomePod Mini.
Naively, I thought that might be the case again and believed that the new Apple TV 4K could come in around 100 pounds as well. I wish It will cost $ 179 / £ 169 for 32GB and $ 199 / £ 189 for the 64GB model. The current, antique HD model (with new remote) remains on sale for $ 149 / £ 139 Blimey!
On its own, the new Siri Remote (£ 55 / $ 55) is also more expensive than the Fire TV Stick 4K (£ 49.99 / $ 49.99).
Apple would argue that the presence of such heavy storage options, powerful A12 processors, brand new premium Siri remote (old sucked), new HDR and high frame-rate technology among other new features would justify the price tag. It is not
It is clear that the Apple TV 4K is a luxury device for those deeply embedded in the Apple ecosystem and has little chance of ensuring platform-agnostic ones. But I can’t see that Apple is losing any sleep over it.
New remote aside, this is an iterative update. After four years without the new model, it is clear that Apple TV hardware is not a priority for Apple. You would think that the company has only taken this device out of obligation to keep up with the latest A / V technology, not to push things forward.
Also, it is big fish to fry.
Apple TV Plus> Apple TV
Apple TV Plus is now more important to the company than the success of Apple TV hardware. I should put it a different way: Apple no longer needs Apple TV hardware for Apple TV Plus.
The firm set a precedent, breaking the preceding precedent that the Apple TV app is available on many smart TVs, set-top boxes, and mobile devices. In the past, it has retained such services and facilities to further hardware sales.
It took the firm a few years to launch the Apple Music app for Android. It has recently opened AirPlay to third-party manufacturers. Earlier, if you wanted to transfer content from iPhone to TV via AirPlay, you needed Apple TV. not anymore.
I use an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and MacBook, but in my opinion, Ted Lasso is still the best thing Apple has produced over the years. You don’t need an Apple device to revel in its grandeur.
Although not quite at the level of my Lasso obsession, For All Mankind is a cracking show that I watch every week. Many of you may also have your favorite, be it Dickinson, Mythic Quest or The Morning Show.
Over the years Apple has built a formidable services division and Apple TV Plus is a valuable part of it. If you don’t want to pay a quiver for a month, you can have it ready as part of the Apple One bundle, including television and movies, music, sports, news, fitness classes, and cloud storage.
Therefore, no, we cannot see that Apple TV 4K does not set any sales record, so we are very upset. The device is purely for Apple fans, who don’t mind paying a little over the odds for an easy life. This is the reason I will buy it.
